Updated: Minor Fire, Lightning Strike Likely Cause

A gas main leak appears to have resulted in a fire breaking out in the 900 block of Kent Street in Altadena.

Updated 4:55 p.m: The fire likely started as the result of a lightning strike that hit the gas valve of the home, according to Capt. Jeff Koeritz of the County Fire Department Station 12 in Altadena.  The meter began to smoke and caught fire, but did not spread very far.  Damage to the home was minimal, he said.

The gas company and Southern California Edison were called in to look at equipment and make sure it was safe, Koeritz added.

Updated 2:45 p.m: The units still on the scene are reporting as available to go to another emergency, meaning the emergency issues at the home are over, according to Johnson.
