Photo Gallery: Fake Drunk Driving Fatal Collision

The Pasadena Police Department staged a simulated drunk driving collision Thursday morning for John Muir High School Students.

Fake blood, shattered glass, empty beer bottles, and a couple of good student actors were all part of a simulated drunk driving collision that was shown to John Muir High School students Thursday morning as a lesson on the dangers of getting behind the wheel drunk.

In the simulation, a drunk teenager collides with and kills a pedestrian, and injures the passenger riding with her.  Firefighters and paramedics cut her friend out of the car and drive him off.  Meanwhile, she fails a drunk driving test and is hauled away by police.

The exercise was carried out by local teen and adult volunteers from the "Every 15 Minutes" drunk driving awareness group.

The event was an odd blend of hyper-realism (a student actor lay motionless in the street in a pool of blood for about 15 minutes) and theatrics (an actor dressed like the grim reaper showed up on scene, apparently to collect the soul of the slain pedestrian).

Dozens of John Muir students watched on, cheering and laughing at times, through the whole exercise.
