Reports of Loud Booms in Eaton Canyon

Sheriff’s deputies responded to calls from Altadena residents claiming they heard loud booms and bangs coming from Eaton Canyon.

On Wednesday and Thursday night this week, the received two calls (one each night) reporting loud noises that sounded like a boom or a bang coming from Eaton Canyon, according to Lt. Michael White.

Lt. White told Patch that deputies were dispatched to check up on the area, but they did not find anything and did not hear the noise while they were there. So, deputies were not able to confirm the source or the cause of the noises.

Special thanks to community volunteer Carolyn Seitz for providing info about this story.

Patch will keep you updated if any more information becomes available.

Did you hear a loud noise in Eaton Canyon this week? What did it sound like?

Close to the same thing here. I heard several booms, spaced apart by maybe 20 seconds each. It sounded too deep to be any firearm, or even most fireworks. I would compare the sound to the deep boom of a single rosebowl firework. I was near elmolino and newyork dr. I know sound can reflect off the mountains a bit oddly during low clouds or even hunid evenings. I remember in the late eighties, I could actually hear the jets taking off from Burbank airport on some nights while living on the 1100 block of East Mendocino

I am glad that someone else hears these noises. From time to time, I have heard a deep low rumble and wondered what in the heck it is. Usually at night -- after 9 pm. Strange.

Since there is no water there we can’t blame it on Nessy, maybe it’s a dinasour? Or Bigfoots southland relatives baking in the heat, or Zombies? The possibilities are endless ;)

Subterranean UFO cities deep in the mountain?

Probably big boulders falling from the mountains. I've heard them late at night making popping sounds as they go down and then finally a big boom when they hit the ground. Yesterday I saw helicopters near me. I can't be sure of what I saw but it appeared one of the helicopters might have been carrying one of those big ones. They probably placed it in a safe spot.
