Altadena Town Council Election: Candidate Applications Due May 17

The Altadena Town Council election will be held June 8.

Altadenans will vote for an Altadena Town Council seat in each of the eight census tracts on June 8 and those wishing to run for those open seats can now apply.

Candidate applications to run for Altadena Town Council must be turned in by 5 p.m. on May 17 to the clerk at the Altadena Community Center.

A candidate’s forum will be held at the May 21 Altadena Town Council meeting at 7 p.m.

Altadena Town Council Election Committee Chair Eric Pierce shared election rules, a candidate application, instructions for applicants, ATC by-laws and ATC Ethical Standards (both attached) so Altadenans know what to expect.

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, a citizen of the United States of America and a registered voter in L.A County. A candidate must be a resident of Altadena for the past two years and must permanently reside within the Census Tract that he/she seeks to represent.

Each Candidate is required to submit a written statement of qualifications with their application. Failure to submit a written statement will result in disqualification. The application is not a statement of qualifications. The statement will be limited to no more than one 8 ½ x 11” sheet.

Any violation of Rules, Ethical Standards or By-Laws can result in the disqualification of a candidate.

Voting Rules

Any Altadena resident who is at least 18 years of age, a citizen of the United States of America and is a permanent resident of Altadena may cast one vote for one Candidate, from his/her respective Census Tract, whose name is on the ballot.

Voters must show a proof of name with photo ID. Proof of residency may be demonstrated with alternate documentation, such as checking accounts, senior cards or utility bills.

No absentee ballots will be given or counted and no write in ballots will be counted.

All polling staff volunteers will be residents of Altadena.

A Candidate, a relative of a Candidate or a Candidate’s campaign staff may not work at any polling place.
