Town Council Members Unfit for Committee, Says Election Committee Chair

Council members Diane Marcussen and Brent Musson kept the election committee from doing their job correctly, committee chair Eric Pierce shared this week.

Altadena Town Council Election Committee Chair Eric Pierce spoke out at Tuesday’s Town Council meeting about what he believes to be lack of support from two council members during the last town council election.

According to Pierce, council members Diane Marcussen and Brent Musson were keeping the election committee from doing their job correctly.

One of the claims Pierce made was that Marcussen and Musson, particularly Musson, did not make election information available to the public.

“My biggest issue with Mr. Musson is that two years in a row he has promised to put the information on the town council website and this year the application packets were not posted on the website until over a week after the applications were due,” said Pierce. “And I checked everyday, I refreshed everyday and they weren’t there and I would not get a response from Mr. Musson."

Pierce also claimed that the committee could not access the committee's Facebook or Twitter accounts, which made it difficult for the committee to further promote the elections.

Pierce sent out an email to the town council, which he also posted as a blog on Altadena Patch Tuesday, that further explained the committee’s difficulties this past election.

Some of the other claims made were that the executive committee members objected to any promotional plans the election committee had to offer.

Members did not purchase election signs they said they were committed to buy until later into the election, which resulted in large shipping costs, Pierce alleged.

Pierce also claims that when the committee sent out a council vote in order to make the election happen in the short amount of time they had, the members attempted to hold up the vote by making allegations that the committee had made mistakes.

“I’ve never experienced people trying to suppress what we were trying to do than these two,” said Pierce. “I don’t feel they are good fit for the executive committee and I can’t even imagine what next year’s election would possibly look like if that even happens.”
