Supervisor Antonovich Calls for Countywide Child Care Grading System

Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael Antonovich wants a countywide system to rate child care programs. 

Antonovich initiated the county's restaurant and nursing home grading systems and he recently presented a motion to his fellow board members requesting a report on developing something similar for child care operators, according to a news release. 

“Parents unknowingly utilize licensed child care homes or day care centers that do not provide quality care,” Antonovich said in a statement. “It is vital that parents have the information necessary to make informed decisions on the facilities and providers charged with caring for their children.”

Grading systems with a wide reach help set up consistent standards, making ratings and inspection reports accessible to the public, and encourage better management practices for compliance, according to Antonovich. 

Staff of the county's Office of Child Care will bring a feasibility report back to the Board within 45 days.
