Aveson Global Leadership Academy Celebrates New Home

The Charter School holds a ribbon cutting ceremony for residents and community leaders.

After several years of sharing facilities in Altadena, the Aveson Global Leadership Academy invited members of the community to celebrate their permanent home Saturday afternoon.

Public tours were provided for the community to see the new home of the Aveson Global Leadership Academy, Nov. 16. The building was originally going to house a grocery store, but after the original owner went bankrupt, a new developer purchased the property and worked with Aveson to convert the space for the school, said architect Steven Dahl.

Aveson Co-Founder Kate Bean spoke of the birth of Aveson and its ideals over 10 years ago.

"I thought, wouldn't it be great to have a learning center, a place that was a school during the day that could also serve the community," Bean said.

Aveson boasts the idea of providing personalized learning for individual students and instilling global confidence by providing them with skills needed to compete in the 21st century.

"Students are individuals. They're all capable of learning at very high levels. To really embrace that and do something practical with it, you have to start with the individual child and you have to know them very well," said Larry Simonsen, director of the Aveson Global Leadership Academy.

"I'm ready to move forward and attack the next phase of my life," said David Domingo, senior at the Global Academy. "If it wasn't for this school, I don't think I would have that mentality."
