Pasadena Unified's 'First Choice Festival' Coming Jan. 14

In an effort to ease the burden of choosing a school to send your child to, the Pasadena Unified School District will hold its inaugural First Choice Festival in January.

The Festival will allow parents to speak with representatives from schools throughout the district. Information will also be provided on the district's Mandarin and Spanish Dual Language Immersion programs, as well as the International Baccalaureate , College and Career Pathways and new magnet schools, district officials said in a press release.

Information will also be provided on preschool, after school programs and free immunizations for students (for uninsured or Medi-Cal eligible children). A raffle will be held, with prizes including a family membership to Kidspace Museum and a full scholarship to the Pasadena Educational Foundation Summer Enrichment Program, district officials said.

Pasadena Unified's open enrollment period will also start Jan. 9 and run until Feb. 6. Open Enrollment provides the opportunity for district students to apply to a school other than the school they attended in 2013-2014, or for prospective students interested in applying to a school other than a neighborhood school, district officials said.

The event will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the PUSD Education Center, 351 South Hudson Avenue, in Pasadena.
