PUSD Educators Awarded $50,000 in Grant Funding

The Pasadena Education Foundation announced the award of $50,000 in grants to 86 district teachers and teachers.

The grant, awarded by the Education Foundation, will provide funding for teachers and principals to purchase classroom supplies and instructional materials, including DNA kits, sheet music and California native plants, district officials said in a written statement.

Such grants are awarded to projects that are student centered, related to the curriculum and must enhance student achievement.

Teacher Kaiulani Sallas and Principal Amin Oria, both from Jefferson Elementary School, were honored with the Jarratt Brunson Award. The newly-created award honors educators who present a proposal that best reflects the vision of Brunson, one of the founding members of the Education Foundation.

"The goal of the PEF Teacher Grant Program is to promote the development of educational activities that will improve and enhance student achievement," said PEF Executive Director, Patrick Conyers. "This year, like every year, I am awed by the creativity and passion that our district's teachers share in these proposals."
