Altadena Mountain Rescue Team Celebrating 60th Anniversary Saturday

The team that helps lost hikers find their way home will be celebrating an important milestone at the Sheriff's Department grand reopening on Saturday.

The Altadena Mountain Rescue Team will be celebrating its 60th anniversary at the this weekend - that is if everyone can avoid getting stuck in Eaton Canyon between 3 and 7 p.m. on Saturday.

If not, the volunteer team (they technically get paid $1 a year for insurance purposes) will be happy to ditch the celebration and head out there - it has happened many times before, including at a graduation event for new search and rescue team members earlier this year when the team was called to a .

Members of the team will be on hand to discuss the community service they perform and hope to have some ropes and rescue displays for kids, according to Rich Deleon, a long-time search and rescue team member.

Saturday's event will be open to the public and will feature the newly-renovated station, which was under construction for about a year..  The event is now taking place from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.  It was originally scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
