Photo Gallery: Altadena's Award Winning Gardens

Attractive and creative streetscapes is what the Altadena Heritage Golden Poppy judges look for. Here's a photo gallery of the five homes that won the award for 2011.

From mansions to modest bungalows, the five winners of the for arresting and beautiful streetside gardens reflect the creativity and personalities of the owners. The homes are scattered across Altadena, from west of Lincoln Avenue to Altadena Drive on the east.

Patch embarked on a front-garden tour of Altadena this week, snapping shots of the gardens the same way readers would see them as they drive or stroll by.

The only exception to the “as seen from the street” rule was the house on Catherine Road.  Wanting to get a close-up of the bronze plaque bestowed by Altadena Heritage, we knocked on the door of the Haight residence to get permission to grab shots of the sign and the walkway.
